Everything that Mill Woods Pentecostal Assembly does and hopes to be can be explained in the following seven statements. We call it our Ministry Charter. We believe that these seven statements are profound, non-negotiable New Testament teachings. We feel that they will never change. We sincerely desire that these core values will dictate our use of time, ability and resources until Jesus Christ returns.
Endeavoring to love God with all our heart, this church is committed to:
1. Train Christians in Biblical Beliefs
What we believe determines our behavior. The Bible holds out that there are universal non optional principles that determine the well being of relationships, physical health, parenting, order in society and knowing God. These truths are founded as certainly as the law of gravity. Therefore, teaching Biblical beliefs will always be our first duty.
2. Train Christians in Biblical Lifestyle
The event of becoming a Christian is followed by a lifestyle called "the Christian pattern." The objective of a healthy church is that believers would ". no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching ... (Eph. 4:14)" Shedding negative habits and achieving an effective Christian lifestyle only comes with sustained spiritual discipline. This church is committed to more than just gathering a crowd. We see training up of Christians that will stand the test of time as a sacred trust.
3. Rely On The Power Of The Holy Spirit
God's strategy is to empower people who take the provision to return to Him offered in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christianity is supernatural. The New Testament is about God bringing new life to people by the Holy Spirit and doing in them what they couldn't do through efforts of self improvement. It is about experiencing daily supernatural energy and communication with God about the biggest and smallest issues in our life. We believe that the power of the Holy Spirit at work in an obedient Christian is not unlike the automatic pilot of an aircraft.
4. Honor all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
In Phil . 2:15 the scripture says that only by maintaining relational integrity does the Christian's life show any contrast to the world around us. Furthermore, the greatest exercise for building spiritual muscle is getting along with the believers around you. We intentionally base our fellowship on primary, not on secondary, doctrine. We are joint members of God's forever family, despite our differences on some secondary doctrinal matters. Therefore, we are committed to love, pray for and speak well of all who honor Christ as Lord.
5. Enlist people to faith in Christ
Our concern for people's eternal welfare compels us to recommend to people what we absolutely believe to be in their eternal best interest. John 1:12 says, " . to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God ." Knowing the eternal jeopardy of people's souls and the solutions for their personal dilemmas, makes it culturally appropriate in every way to reach out to them with the gospel of God's power to change their life.
6. Influence society with Christian truth
"The early church was not something that spoke to its culture; it was itself a culture." Not only are we to tell good news we are to be good news. "You are the salt of the earth." Mat. 5:13 Living as salt and light makes people interested in what empowers us and it acts as a moral preservative in society. We want the watching world to see in us that, "Christians are good neighbors and good citizens."
7. Respond to human need in both the church and the world
The Bible never separates spirituality from practicality. Jesus classically connected love for God and love for people in the two great commandments. The Christian church must reflect the heart of God who hears the groans of those who suffer disadvantage. We commit ourselves to compassionate service as a matter of love for God and basic Christian responsibility, trusting in Jesus' words, "As much as you have done it to the least of these, you have done it to me."
